Big Bullets (BB) FC has set December as deadline for its supporters to have identity cards (IDs) as one way of dealing with violence during games.

The club also says the IDs will help it know how many supporters it has across the country.

BB head of marketing Geoffrey Tamutamu told The Nation on Thursday that the club is currently in the process of engaging local mobile service providers such as TNM and Airtel to provide a platform for the registration drive.

He said the team’s fans, who proudly call themselves Palestinians, would send their details to the club at a fee of K500 through SMS or register at their match venues through the People’s Team senior officials.

“We believe this could be one way of ending violence among our supporters because we will have details of each supporter for easy monitoring. In that way, we will be able to defend ourselves from possible bans that emerge from riots,” Tamutamu said.

He said once they have actual figures of registered supporters, they will be able to discuss business deals with prospective sponsors and produce their merchandise such as calendars in accordance with their official fan base.

“The ID will also be a ticket for a fan to attend our annual general meetings and contest for executive committee positions during our elective general assemblies,” he said.

Meanwhile, the club has invested K10 million (about $25 000) in a marketing drive that will see it intensifying its SMS campaign, the selling of replica jerseys and organising live band performances to fundraise K150 million (about $375 000) in five years.
